IP dispute history[edit]
Masem put in a lot of effort summarizing the legal dispute. I have to admit, it's really compelling and very well sourced for the most part. But I agree with the tag that it was perhaps too detailed, especially on the more ambiguous and esoteric issues. My suggestion is to start reworking the original Star Control article to track the IP ownership over the years. Or maybe even split that article into a new Star Control series article, with a separate article for the original game itself. Masem, if you wanted to take a shot at it, I could try to provide support. Would be good to get this article into a state where we can remove the tags. - That's reasonable. I think this is a complex situation that understanding the history from 20 years ago and the recent developments should be reasonably documented. --Masem (t) 02:46, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- It seems impossible to talk about this game and avoid covering the legal issues. Thanks for working on this. You're doing a solid job, and I'll try to help where I can. Shooterwalker (talk) 03:14, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Orz and Androsynth[edit]
The races of the Orz and Androsynth, from Star Control 2 are featured in an Easter Egg in Star Control: Origins.
This Easter Egg can be found in SC:O at the Alpha Horos solar system.
In the system there are various ruins referring to a race that was studying breaking into other dimensions with bad consequences.
The conversation at the final ruin is as follows:
We found another of those labs, sir. Biggest one yet.
This one has a pretty big apparatus in it as well. Lots of important looking pylons if you get my drift. The computers here have been corrupted as well. Just a short audio log.Translator's working on it now. Ok, here we go:'There's intelligence beyond the fabric! Translation is... problematic. But they don't seem hostile! They say we're very nice *campers* and that this place *SMELLS* good.'
Audio logs cut off there, Captain. Weird. This place doesn't smell that good at all.
History[edit]
Orz[edit]
The Orz are a race from Star Control 2, which use language such as *campers* and *smell* when speaking due to bad translator results from the human players starship.
Androsynth[edit]
The Androsynth are a race of human clones. In Star Control 2 they experimented with other dimensions and were 'seen' by the Orz. In Star Control 2 the Androsynth are no longer around but the Orz are in the space the Androsynth used to occupy.
'Star Control: Origins' (ALL) Free Reinforcements DLC Next Week
by Rainier on Nov. 29, 2018 @ 3:31 p.m. PST
Star Control: Origins is set in the year 2086. The good news: the signals from Earth have been received by an advanced alien race. The bad news: they are looking for the source of the signals in order to annihilate them. As Captain of the most advanced starship the human race has ever constructed, the player's mission is to prevent the impending destruction of the Earth through any means necessary.
To that end, Star Control: Origins allows players to land on planets that are now represented as spherical entities with the gameplay updated to allow the lander to jump obstacles, rotate their lander’s cannon and deal with hostile environments and creatures.
Like the classic series, Star Control focuses on the player’s interaction with alien races. Star Control: Origins introduces a new cast of aliens for the player to learn and deal with. Using the game’s dynamic rendering system, the aliens and their speech are rendered in real-time.
For the music, Stardock has been working to reunite the musicians worked on the previous games. For example, Riku Nuottajarvi, composer of much of the music for the original series, has returned for the new Star Control series. Meanwhile, for the writing, Stardock has tapped Cracked.com columnist, Chris Bucholz to lead the story and writing effort.

The free Reinforcements DLC adds a dozen new ships to pilot in Star Control: Origins' combat mini-game, Fleet Battles.
Star Control: Origins puts the player in command of Earth's first interstellar ship on a mission to save the earth from impending destruction at the hands of a hostile alien empire. During the course of the game, players will encounter dozens of alien civilizations, explore hundreds of planets and attempt to find a way to prevent the malevolent Scryve Empire from finding and destroying Earth.
Star Control: Origins also includes a combat mini-game called Fleet Battles in which players assemble fleets of ships and take them into combat either against the computer or against other players online. The free Reinforcements DLC nearly doubles the number of ships available to choose from by default.
Star Control: Origins is available from Stardock, GOG, or Steam for $24.99. The bundle, which includes Star Control: The Ur-Quan Masters and Star Control: Kessari Quadrant, can be purchased from Stardock, GOG, or Steam for $29.99.
